Where To Give Now | August 2025

So much for summer doldrums. Between the Big, Terrible Bill over July 4th, the Alaska Summit, DC takeover, and more, there is a lot going on.

My social media was filled this week with clever Traylor memes and reposts, especially political ones. This one from the AFL-CIO is one of my favorites. Happy Labor Day, thank you unions.

One week, everyone. It’s all hands on deck. Remember, we don’t know what the early vote is telling us. The 2020 election was a Black Swan event and we cannot compare apples to oranges. Polls were not designed to measure races this close and margin of error is real. This could be a relative blowout either way or an extremely close race that takes weeks to decide. Brace yourself.

If you’re in full freak out mode, get off the computer and DO SOMETHING. My family and I knocked doors in CO-8 last weekend and it felt wonderful to be out there (and not just because of the beautiful fall weather in Colorado). We’re heading to Las Vegas to canvass this weekend and have been doing postcards with MomsRising and letters with Vote Forward as well.

Labor Day is the unofficial kickoff of campaign season. While Election Day is 61 days away, absentee ballots will be mailed out in North Carolina THIS Friday, 9/6, and early voting starts in Pennsylvania on 9/16. We cannot let our foot off the gas. This will be a very close election at the top of the ticket and down the ballot.

Annual polling reminder: Margin of error is real. Every battleground state is within the margin of error. They will all be close. Stop refreshing FiveThirtyEight and get to work.

Scroll down for how to help key candidates, battleground state GOTV efforts, and election administration and election protection efforts.

Where To Give Now: June 2024

The presidential election is a toss-up. The US Senate map is hard. Control of the US House is a toss-up. I put the chances of a Democratic trifecta at 15%, a Republican trifecta at 25%, and divided government at 60%.

The first presidential debate between Joe Biden and Donald Trump will take place on June 27 and, yes, it could change everything. Joe Biden is known to be a game-day performer (see: State of the Union); will that Joe Biden show up? Will he be seen as robust and capable by the 2020 voters who are now doubters? Donald Trump is known for pulling stunts and ignoring the rules. Can moderators keep him in line? Can Biden get under Trump’s skin and set him off? Neither man has debated for four years; what impact will that have? There are so many unknowns (will Trump actually show up?) but we know it will be a momentous event. While the debate could change everything, it likely will not. This race has been remarkably stable. Even Trump being convicted of 34 felonies hasn’t moved the needle much (yet).

I am very nervous.
